Pay for Eligible Wigs with Your HSA or FSA Card
HSA/FSA Cards Are Now Accepted at MyHairMail
At MyHairMail, we believe finding the right wig should be easier, especially when hair loss is part of a medical journey. We're pleased to share that MyHairMail now accepts Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) payment cards through our regular online checkout.
If you are purchasing a wig because of a medical condition or related treatment, your purchase may qualify as an eligible medical expense under applicable rules. You can use an eligible HSA/FSA card at checkout, subject to your card issuer's approval and your plan's requirements.

How to Pay with Your HSA or FSA Card
- Find the wig that fits your needs. Explore premium styles, colors, cap constructions and sizes. Use our real-time inventory information to check availability before ordering.
- Add your selection to your cart. Review the product details, shipping information and applicable return or final-sale terms.
- Proceed to checkout. Choose the usual credit/debit card payment option and enter your HSA or FSA card information if your card has a supported payment network.
- Complete your purchase. Your card issuer or plan's payment processor determines whether the transaction is authorized. You will receive the usual MyHairMail order confirmation after a successful order.
- Save your documentation. Retain the itemized order receipt and any medical documentation required by your plan, such as a prescription, clinician's recommendation or Letter of Medical Necessity.
No separate HSA/FSA checkout button or application with MyHairMail is needed to enter an HSA/FSA payment card. Your card and plan administrator may still impose restrictions or request supporting documentation.
Can a Wig Be an Eligible HSA/FSA Expense?
Sometimes, yes. A wig purchased for a qualifying medical need may be eligible. The IRS expressly addresses wigs in Publication 502, including a wig purchased on a physician's advice for the mental health of a patient who has lost all their hair from disease. Certain HSA/FSA plans also recognize medically necessary wigs for hair loss associated with medical treatment, subject to documentation and their rules.
This may be relevant to some people experiencing hair loss associated with a disease or medical treatment, including chemotherapy. However, not every hair-loss situation, product or purchase qualifies, and examples do not guarantee eligibility for your circumstances.
A wig purchased only for fashion, styling, a costume or everyday cosmetic preference is not automatically an eligible medical expense simply because MyHairMail accepts HSA/FSA cards.
Before purchasing with HSA/FSA funds: Ask your plan administrator whether your specific wig purchase is eligible, what documentation is necessary, and whether any restrictions apply to your payment card.
What Documentation Might I Need?
Requirements vary. Your HSA or FSA administrator may ask you to keep or submit:
- An itemized MyHairMail receipt showing the product, purchase date and amount.
- A prescription, physician's recommendation or Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) describing why the wig is medically necessary.
- Any other plan-specific claim form or supporting documentation.
You generally do not have to send medical records to MyHairMail to enter your card at checkout. Your plan administrator, rather than MyHairMail, determines what it needs to substantiate the expense. Keep your records even when your card is approved immediately, because additional documentation may be requested later.
What If My HSA/FSA Card Is Declined?
A declined transaction does not necessarily mean a wig is ineligible. Issuers may decline a payment because of available funds, card restrictions, plan rules, a temporary authorization issue, or documentation/merchant controls.
- Check your balance and card status.
- Contact the number on the back of your HSA/FSA card or your plan administrator to learn why the transaction was declined.
- Ask whether your plan permits paying with a personal payment card and submitting a separate reimbursement claim later. Reimbursement is not guaranteed.
- If you need help with your MyHairMail order, use our Live Chat or email orders@myhairmail.com. We cannot override a card issuer's decision.
Are Returns and Refunds Different When I Use HSA/FSA Funds?
No. The same MyHairMail return, cancellation, shipping and final-sale terms apply regardless of payment method. Some products, including Buyers Club purchases and other categories identified in our published policy, are final sale.
For an eligible return, please review our Refund Policy. Our current policy normally offers store credit or an eligible refund to the original payment method, subject to its stated conditions and fees.
Important for HSA/FSA users: MyHairMail store credit is not a refund into your HSA or FSA account and might have different implications under your plan. Before choosing store credit for an HSA/FSA-funded order, contact your plan administrator if you are unsure about how it must be handled. Refunds to the original card are subject to our published policy and card issuer processing.

HSA/FSA FAQs
Do I need to select a special HSA or FSA payment method?
No. Enter your eligible HSA/FSA card through the standard credit/debit card checkout option. Your issuer determines authorization.
Does MyHairMail accept both HSA and FSA cards?
MyHairMail's payment processing partner has enabled acceptance of HSA/FSA payment cards. Individual card acceptance is subject to the issuing institution and program rules.
Can I use my HSA or FSA to buy any wig on the website?
Not necessarily. A wig's eligibility depends on the medical reason for purchasing it and applicable tax and plan rules, not simply on the style or retailer.
Can I buy a human hair wig or a synthetic wig?
The fiber type alone does not determine HSA/FSA eligibility. Confirm the medical purpose, documentation and plan rules for your specific purchase. Our product-specific return restrictions still apply.
Do I need a prescription?
Your plan might require a prescription, a clinician's recommendation or a Letter of Medical Necessity. Obtain the documentation your particular plan requests. MyHairMail does not decide whether medical documentation is sufficient.
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?
It is documentation from an appropriate healthcare professional explaining the medical condition and why the recommended item is needed. Ask your plan administrator what information its form must contain.
Does an approved card payment mean my wig is automatically HSA/FSA eligible?
No. Card authorization and qualified-expense status are separate. Your plan may ask you to substantiate the purchase afterward.
Can I use HSA/FSA funds for wig shampoo, styling tools, accessories, subscriptions or gift cards?
Do not assume these purchases are eligible. Their status depends on the specific item, its medical purpose and the applicable plan rules. MyHairMail does not designate these products as eligible merely because an HSA/FSA card can be entered at checkout.
Does every type of FSA cover wigs?
No. Different accounts have different permitted expenses. For example, limited-purpose FSAs generally focus on dental and vision expenses, while dependent-care FSAs are for qualifying care expenses rather than medical purchases. Ask your administrator which account type you have and whether this purchase qualifies.
Can I use my card if I have only part of the purchase amount available?
Available funds and issuer restrictions apply. We do not promise split payment between an HSA/FSA card and another credit card. Check available checkout options and contact your plan administrator about alternatives.
Can I submit a claim for reimbursement after paying with another card?
Your plan may allow it for qualifying medical expenses. Check the plan's deadline, reimbursement process and supporting documentation requirements before relying on reimbursement.
What if I buy the wig for someone else?
Eligibility for purchases on behalf of a spouse or dependent is governed by your specific HSA/FSA plan and applicable tax rules. Confirm before purchasing.
Does this mean my health insurer covers the wig?
No. HSA/FSA spending and insurance claim coverage are separate matters. Acceptance of an HSA/FSA payment card is not a promise of insurance coverage or reimbursement.
Can international customers use HSA/FSA cards?
This guidance concerns U.S. HSA/FSA programs. Card use for a particular transaction, including purchases from outside the U.S., depends on the issuer and applicable rules; no international acceptance is guaranteed.
Does using an HSA/FSA card change shipping times or return eligibility?
No. Standard manufacturer processing, shipment estimates, applicable Buyers Club rules and published return restrictions still apply.
Who can help me choose a wig?
Our specialists are available seven days a week via Live Chat or orders@myhairmail.com. We can help with products, stock availability and order questions, but cannot determine tax eligibility or override your HSA/FSA administrator.
