Blonde Wigs Without Dark Roots: Non-Rooted Blonde Shades by Brand

Rooted and shaded blondes are everywhere right now. A darker root makes a blonde look lived-in and natural, so many of today's most popular wig colors have one. But not everyone wants that look. If you have always worn a clean, even blonde, or you simply prefer the color to run the same from the part to the ends, a darker root can feel like the wrong shade entirely.

The good news is that every premium brand we carry still makes beautiful blondes without an intentionally darker root. We have gathered a selection of them below, brand by brand. Some are blended or highlighted blondes with several tones woven together, but none of them have the deliberately darker-rooted look.

How to Spot a Rooted Shade Before You Buy

Most brands mark their rooted colors in the shade name or code. Once you know the signs, you can scan a color chart in seconds:

  • "SS", "Shaded" or "Rooted" in the name. Raquel Welch, Gabor and Hairdo use SS (for example, RL14/25SS Shaded Honey Ginger is the rooted version of RL14/25 Honey Ginger).
  • A trailing "S" plus a number on Jon Renau shades. 14/26S10 Shaded Pralines n' Cream has a root; 14/26 Pralines n' Cream does not.
  • "-R" or "-LR" after the name at Rene of Paris, Noriko, Amore and Belle Tress. Creamy Toffee-R is rooted; Creamy Toffee is not.
  • "ROOTED" vs. "MIX" at Ellen Wille. Champagne Rooted has a root; Champagne Mix is a blend with no darker root.

The same shade often comes in both versions, so it pays to double-check the full color name when you choose your variant.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Not every color comes in every style. Each style has its own color list, so check the color options on the product page.
  • Screens vary. Compare shades side by side in our Color Guide Tool and look at the swatch for each color.
  • Blended and highlighted blondes are not rooted, but they do mix lighter and darker tones throughout. If you want a single, even color, choose a solid shade such as 613, Platinum Blonde or Light Blonde.
  • Synthetic vs. human hair. Most shades here are synthetic. Our Wig Fiber Guide explains the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "rooted" or "shaded" mean on a wig color?

A rooted or shaded color has a darker tone at the base of the hair, near the part and crown, that fades into the main color. It imitates natural regrowth. A non-rooted color has no deliberately darker base.

Are highlighted blondes the same as rooted blondes?

No. Highlighted and blended blondes weave several tones through the whole length of the hair. A rooted blonde is darker specifically at the root. Many of the shades above are highlighted or blended, but none of them have a darker root.

Which non-rooted blonde is best for cool or warm skin tones?

As a rule, ash, pearl and platinum blondes (such as Iced Sweet Cream, Ice Blond, Pearl Blonde Mix or Platinum Blonde) flatter cool undertones, while golden and honey blondes (such as Golden Wheat, Honey Toast, Harvest Gold or Butterscotch) flatter warm undertones. Our team is happy to suggest shades for you.

Can you help me choose?

Yes. Tell us on live chat which styles you like (pixie, bob, shoulder-length or long; straight, wavy or curly) and whether you lean toward cooler or warmer blondes. We will narrow this list down to specific wigs and check current availability across our brands.
